Social Ministry

Parish Social Ministry promotes the social mission of the parish. Its emphasis is twofold: 1) education and formation of the parish community and 2) organization of parishioners into five complementary ministries: charity and direct service, legislative advocacy, global solidarity, care for creation, and empowerment.

The Social Ministry Planning Committee gives direction to social ministry at St. Aloysius Parish. It assesses needs, plans, coordinates, communicates, reviews and evaluates parish social ministry efforts in light of Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching. (CST).

We see the parish dimensions of social ministry not as an added burden, but as a part of what keeps a parish alive and makes it truly Catholic. Effective social ministry helps the parish not do only more, but be more – more of a reflection of the Gospel, more of a worhiping and evangelizing people, more of a faithful community. It is an essential part of parish life.”  (Communities of Salt and Light, U.S. Bishops, 1993)
